School Life
Emphasis is placed on multi-sensory learning and first-hand experience.

Staff:
The Pre-Preparatory School has a Headmistress and Deputy Headmistress.  All staff are fully qualified teachers and trained specialists in Early Years teaching.  There is one teacher for each class and a total of five fully qualified and experienced teaching assistants to give additional support throughout the School.  The School also has a Specialist Teacher for Learning Development and Music. 

Class Organisation:
There is one Nursery Class with its own self-contained Nursery garden and entrance.  There is a fully qualified teacher and nursery assistant for this class, which has a maximum of 18 children in each of its half-day sessions. 

There are two Reception classes.  The maximum number in each class is 18 children.

There are two Year One Classes for children.  The maximum class size is 18. 

There are two Year Two classes for children.  Again, the maximum class size is 18.  Children in Year Two are required to sit the public entrance exam to the Preparatory School alongside outside applicants, in the Lent (Spring) term.

Curriculum:
Nursery and Reception
Children of Nursery and Reception age learn through structured play and exploration.  There are a wide range of activities, covering the following areas:

1. Personal and Social Development

2. Communication, Language and Literature

3. Mathematics

4. Knowledge and Understanding of the World

5. Physical Development

6. Creative Development.

More detailed information about certain curriculum areas (i.e. Reading, Writing, Maths, Science and Technology) is given at Parent Induction Meetings.

Year One and Year Two
All children follow the National Curriculum, covering English, Mathematics, Science, Design and Technology, Information Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music and PE.

In the Lent (Spring) term Year Two pupils take the Preparatory School entrance examination. In the Trinity (Summer) term the children take the end of Key Stage 1 test (SAT’s).
