Lucky Brentwood School Sixth Formers had the honour of meeting Old Brentwood, Rt Hon Jack Straw MP, on Monday 19th March 2012. Mr Straw paid a visit to his former school to talk to students about politics and his time at Brentwood School.

So you think you know Antigone?

When asked to think of classic Greek theatre, the chances are you’d be imagining togas, masks, amphitheatres and a traditional chorus; a tragic plot, or perhaps a comedy.

But what happens when those elements get stripped back, reworked, or even - in some cases - removed entirely? How should we direct a classic piece of theatre 2450 years after it was first performed? What happens when Sophocles’ play Antigone ends up in a completely alien setting - 1930s, Edwardian society - with elements of silent film?

Brentwood School Careers Convention

The Careers Department at Brentwood School held its annual Careers Convention in the Courage Hall on Wednesday, 7th March 2012 to help Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Form students and their parents explore the possible avenues open to them when they leave school. The school see this as an invaluable service and encourage even more families to attend every year.

Teddies for Tragedies

As part of the Community Service Unit, a group of Brentwood School students have taken up knitting on Friday afternoons in aid of charity, producing teddies, blankets and bags to be sent to children around the world. They have spent weeks honing their teddy-knitting skills to produce a host of brightly-coloured bears ready to bring joy to less fortunate children in war-torn countries.
