Brentwood School students are celebrating early offers to some of the country’s top universities including 11 sought-after offers to Oxford and Cambridge. The deadline for students applying for university or college this autumn is not until 6pm on Wednesday 15 January.
Some 25 students have achieved the accolade of receiving offers on all five of their university choices before the Universities and Colleges Admission Service (UCAS) application deadline closes. One A2 student and another International Baccalaureate student are sitting on unconditional offers. Of the 11 students already in receipt of Oxbridge offers, seven are for Oxford and four for Cambridge.
Headmaster Mr Ian Davies congratulated all Upper Sixth students on a bumper year with offers coming in thick and fast from top universities reflecting the wide range of subject interests and abilities of Brentwood students. Last year’s success included eight students attending Oxford and Cambridge and 12 students reading the highly competitive subjects of medicine and law.
Mr Davies said this achievement was down to the importance of early identification by teachers of a student’s potential and excellent GCSE and IGCSE results. “We strongly believe in the potential of all our pupils and nurture their intellectual abilities right from the moment they start at Brentwood; ten of the successful Oxbridge applicants have been attending Brentwood for the past seven years.”
The academic focus and passion of students, their teachers and their Oxbridge mentors has paid dividends. Their hard work and commitment has been supported by twilight Critical Thinking sessions, dedicated extra and challenging material in lessons, and extra-curricular preparation for the all-important entrance interviews and tests.
Mr Davies also praised the whole year group’s motivation and the support and advice they were given by teachers throughout the UCAS process. “Of overriding importance is an articulate passion for the subject, and reading and research beyond the examination specifications.”
“We wish all our Upper Sixth students good luck in the next few months as they prepare for their final exams”, he added.
The 11 successful Oxbridge applicants include a mixture of A Level and International Baccalaureate candidates and cover a wide range of subjects including Classics, Physics, Medicine Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computation, PPE, Biology and French.
