All those interested in applying for a Sport Scholarship will be required to complete the Sport Scholarship application form before the deadline of 1st December 2019. Forms will be available from September 2019.
Brentwood School enjoys a strong sporting tradition and an excellent national reputation across a variety of sports. The purpose of our scholarship scheme in sport is to attract the best young sportsmen and women in the local area and beyond.
We have a wide range of excellent sporting facilities, including vast playing fields, a double sports hall, gymnasium, 25m indoor swimming pool, fitness suite, four glass-backed squash courts, full size floodlit all-weather pitch, netball and tennis courts, athletics track, fencing salle, dance studios, 14 football and rugby pitches, and first-class cricket squares.
As our pupils progress through the school, they can participate in over 30 sports. From fencing to shooting, from aerobics to golf - it would be a challenge not to find an activity you enjoy!
The Sport Department has a very successful track record in academic courses including GCSE PE, AS Level
and GCSE Dance as an enrichment course, AS and A2 Level PE and IB SEHS. All pupils have PE lessons until the Fifth Year and whilst some pupils achieve high honours nationally and internationally at various sports, many just take part because they enjoy it.
Our teaching staff have the expertise to support those who wish to make sport a career. We offer the British Sporting JSLA and CSLA as enrichment courses in the Sixth Form and many members of staff have excelled as players of the sport they teach.
At the elite end of the spectrum, we have a proven track record of producing top-class performers who excel and inspire. Around 400 pupils represent the School each Saturday and we field in excess of 100 teams who compete at inter-school, county and national level. Recent achievements include pupils representing England for U19 Athletics, U17 and U19 Cricket, U17 Football (including six players signing professional contracts in the past six years), U19 Netball, U19 Water Polo and Great Britain at Fencing. We frequently have students gaining representative honours.
A diverse range of co-curricular activities extends the pupils’ experience and it is usual for Brentwood School teams to tour within the UK and abroad. Recent tours have included South Africa, Barbados and
We aim to create confident, dynamic pupils who think creatively and possess the ability to make good decisions in both a sporting and whole School context. Somewhere along the line, most of our pupils will understand the thrill of being on the winning side or the heartbreak of defeat. If they are in a team, they will understand what it means to pour effort into something bigger than yourself and to deal with successes and failures together: perhaps the greatest lesson of team sport.
Successful applicants, who can demonstrably prove that they have achieved regional representation, will
be invited to our Sport Scholarship Assessment Day where they will be asked to compete alongside each
other. Students will be asked to arrive in kit and participate in up to five different sports sessions. Refreshments and Lunch will be provided.
Successful candidates will also need to have performed very well in the Entrance Examination on Saturday 18th January 2020.
