Vitamin D is magic
This week at Brentwood has been delightful, blessed with splendid weather that has allowed our pupils to spend more time outdoors. Events such as the Teddy Bear’s Picnic and the Key Stage 2 Sports Day have provided wonderful opportunities for the children to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
The benefits of Vitamin D are well known, and its positive effects on our mood and overall wellbeing are evident when both pupils and staff are able to spend time outside. It’s heartening to see that children are now much more conscientious about sun safety—applying sunscreen, wearing sun hats and staying hydrated are almost second nature to them, a significant improvement from past times.
As regular readers of my blog will know, I am passionate about fostering a connection with nature, and also supporting national and global awareness days that promote worthwhile causes. This week has given us the chance to reflect on the importance of Love Your Lungs Week, World Wellbeing Week, and National Picnic Week. Focusing on awareness of each of these themes underscores the value of spending time outdoors.
Our pupils have been able to exercise their lungs through physical activity on Sports Day, enjoy the fun of a picnic while hunting for teddy bears, and enhance their overall wellbeing by being in the great outdoors more frequently. Raising awareness of these issues is important for us at Brentwood, and you might find that your children are eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm about these themes at home.
Have a great weekend when it arrives.
