The Morning After the Year 6 Bugsy Malone Production

What an unforgettable couple of nights it has been! After two spectacular performances of Bugsy Malone, our Year 6 pupils have truly set the stage alight, leaving us all with memories that will last a lifetime. On Wednesday and Thursday night, two talented casts took their turn to shine, each one bringing their own unique energy to the stage and delivering performances that were nothing short of amazing.

From the very start, the magic of Bugsy Malone was in full swing, even before the show had officially begun. As the audience entered the hall, they were immediately transported to the heart of a 1920s speakeasy. The hall had been carefully transformed into a vibrant nightclub with our actors such as Fat Sam and Tallulah stationed at the door, greeting guests as they arrived – perfectly in character. Gangsters, looking ever-so-mysterious with their dubious violin cases, prowled the aisles, giving guests a taste of the tension and excitement to come. Meanwhile, the dance girls were already rehearsing on stage, adding an extra layer of buzz to the atmosphere.

This immersive experience set the tone for the entire show. Every inch of the performance felt like part of the 1920s world; it was electric from the moment the curtains opened. The children, (hard to believe they were only 10 and 11), rose to the occasion, impressing us with their dedication and confidence. With the live band, made up of Senior School students and staff, adding to the excitement, the sound and lighting team worked their magic to immerse us in the world of 1920s New York. The incredible set and props – created by our amazing Art and DT team – set the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable night of entertainment.  The dance routines were expertly choreographed by Miss Ritchie and pupils alike and brought to life with great enthusiasm.

The children’s performances were nothing short of spectacular with impressive New York accents throughout. Solo singers shone, giving life to their characters with warmth and conviction. The chorus numbers were filled with energy and enthusiasm, as all the children stepped into their roles with gusto. It was truly inspiring to see all children excel, some stepping out of their comfort zones, rising to the occasion with confidence and flair.

The show ended with the iconic splurging scene, and it was as hilarious and chaotic as you would expect! Both casts brought their own brand of fun to the finale, with silly string flying everywhere, leaving the audience laughing and cheering. They went away with aching faces…from laughing so much!

Looking back, it’s clear that these performances were about more than just acting and singing. They were a testament to the spirit of teamwork, creativity, and determination that every child and staff member showed over the past few months.

Congratulations to everyone—whether you performed, supported from behind the scenes, hid backstage changing mics or contributed to the production in any way. Your hard work and dedication made this show a true success, and the memories will stay with us for years to come!
