Our Diverse Co-Curricular Programme
Our extensive Co-Curricular programme offers after-school and lunchtime activities for pupils to participate in inclusive and engaging creative and physical interests.
The structure of our Co-Curricular programme is called ACES and encourages pupils to join in a range of activities across four categories: Arts, Community, Enrichment and Sport.
Exploring Interests Beyond the Classroom
Pupils can take part in a wide and diverse selection of clubs including musical activities and drama groups such as our Musical Theatre Club and Junior Choir, and competitive and recreational sports such as Dance, Fencing, Golf and Karate. We even offer Creative Writing, Young Engineers Club, Chess and Bushcraft Club, and many others!
We use SOCS to schedule and register all co-curricular clubs. Parents and pupils can sign up for clubs and activities using SOCS in the first week of each term. Children are encouraged to select a range of activities to promote all-round development.
Brentwood School creates a friendly atmosphere which makes my children feel comfortable and confident to express themselves at clubs and in the classroom.

Nurturing Artistic Talent
School life is packed with creative energy and there are many opportunities for every child to stand out and develop their artistic flair at Brentwood Prep.
Many pupils choose to follow the popular courses run by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) at lunchtimes and after school. Stage Crazy Theatre School also takes place on Saturdays for students who wish to develop their acting skills further.
Junior Guildhall Courses
We are delighted to announce that limited places have become available for the Junior Guildhall Kindergarten and String Training courses held at Brentwood School.
The hugely successful programmes which run at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Junior Guildhall at Brentwood School provide access to outstanding musical training for young children aged 4-11 from Essex and the local region.
For more information on how to apply for The Kindergarten Programme or the String Training Programme at Brentwood School, please contact the Junior Guildhall below.
Kindergarten Programme
This programme provides young children in Reception and Year 1 with their first musical experience, consisting of classes in Kodály and Rhythmics, which are delivered in a friendly, inclusive class setting.
Junior Guildhall believes that this age group benefits most from non-instrumental music lessons, with a focus on developing strong foundations in pitch, rhythm, coordination, and concentration. Students take part in games and exercises that encourage musical exploration through movement and singing.
No prior musical training is necessary to join the Kindergarten programme.
String Training Programme
This programme provides young children in Year 2 to Year 6 with their first experience of music making, which includes individual instrumental tuition, ensemble work and Kodály and Rhythmics classes.
Following an internal selection process, students in Year 1 of the Kindergarten Course will be invited to continue to Year 2 of the String Training Programme.
The first study instruments available on the String Training Programme are the violin, viola and cello. Piano lessons may be chosen as an extra study subject to availability.
Applications from external applicants will be considered from Year 3 onwards.

Broadening Horizons Through Enrichment
Our extensive academic enrichment program provides a wide range of opportunities for students to engage with, instilling a thirst for knowledge in them that remains beyond their time here.
Our enrichment activities aim to stimulate and extend students with a particular subject passion as well as some that are more focused on broadening interests and knowledge. Our enrichment provision is inclusive in nature and we encourage all students to take part in activities and clubs which they might find interesting. There is something for everyone.

Trips That Inspire
Classroom learning is regularly enhanced with off-site trips and visits around the UK and abroad to inspire our pupils.
For example, our Year 5 always enjoy a regular trip to perform in the Young Voices Concert at the O2.
Our Enrichment Week also includes many fun trips for Prep pupils including some with a historical focus, such as Layer Marney Tower, England’s tallest Tudor gatehouse.
“This year’s Enrichment Week was an exhilarating blend of activities, trips, and in-school activities that have left our pupils buzzing with excitement and brimming with new experiences.
Mrs Barke, Head of Academic Enrichment
Forest School
Forest School embraces the outdoors as an inspiring learning environment focusing on the child’s learning needs rather than any specific outcome. It is a unique way of building confidence and self-esteem, learning new skills and promoting risk awareness and independence through hands-on experiences.
All Forest School sessions are led by a qualified Level 3 Forest School lead practitioner and take place in the woodland area of our School fields, known as Bayman Wood. The Bayman Wood is truly magical and features many well-established trees as well as some areas that have been left to grow wild, and there is a lovely muddy patch! We have made and dispersed seed bombs to boost new growth and encourage birds and insects to come to the area, and have also made bird feeders.
Much of the learning in Forest School is initiated by the children themselves as they explore and discover. The leader is trained to observe the children’s interests and plan activities to enhance their learning. Some of the planned activities your child may experience include using tools (whittling sticks, sawing wood), cooking on a campfire, building shelters, natural artwork and exploring the environment.
