Second star to the right…and straight on to success! – Year 6 Production

The morning, after our two wonderful Year 6 performances of Peter Pan, there is a real sense of pride throughout the School. Following performances on Wednesday and Thursday, with two separate casts taking to the stage, we can honestly say that every child involved was incredible. Both casts brought something special to their performances and, somehow, managed to raise their game even further for their final show in front of parents and families.

What made this production so memorable was the passion and commitment shown by every single child. Whether they were already comfortable performing on stage or stepping outside their comfort zone, every performer gave their all. The singing was simply outstanding. From confident and expressive solos to rousing chorus numbers and even impressive three-part harmonies, the musical elements of the show were a real highlight. The level of acting on that stage was something else….Somebody commented, “You really would think they were part of a Performing Arts specialist school!”

We were also delighted to be supported by a group of Senior School students who performed as a live band. Their professionalism and musicianship elevated the entire production, bringing an energy and authenticity that made every performance feel truly special. Our tech team also added that professional touch with outstanding sound and lighting throughout.

Every role mattered. Whether playing a Pirate, Lost Boy, member of the Darling family, Neverlander, Mermaid, Peter, Wendy, Hook, Nana or the crocodile, each child remained fully committed to their character throughout. The energy, focus and enthusiasm on stage were wonderful to see.

There was also an incredible creative side to this production. During the Year 6 Enrichment Activities sessions, the children took real ownership of the show by helping to create props and scenery, designing and tie-dyeing T-shirts, and even composing their own lyrics for the pirate song. Everywhere you looked, children were busy contributing to the production in ways that went far beyond simply learning lines and songs. Their creativity, teamwork and willingness to get involved were truly impressive.

We have so many members of staff to thank for their help, support and encouragement throughout the process, all of whom were rightly recognised at the end of the performances. However, the biggest thank you, as always, goes to the children.

Year 6, your professionalism, teamwork, passion, energy, determination and boundless enthusiasm have been a joy to witness. You have been a pleasure to work alongside and have shown what can be achieved when everyone pulls together towards a common goal. The comments from staff, parents and visitors have been overwhelmingly positive, with so many people remarking on the quality of the performances and the confidence of the children involved. More photos will be available soon!

We really did pull it off, didn’t we? As Peter Pan himself reminds us, it was “…an awfully big adventure!”
