Combined Choirs for our Black History Month Assembly
The morning rain may have brought our gathering indoors from the playground, but it certainly couldn’t dampen the spirits inside the hall. Three of our school choirs came together this morning for a truly uplifting, music-filled start to our special Black History Month assembly.
The hall filled with energy from the moment doors opened, thanks to Alessia G-C in Year 5. Alessia took true pupil leadership into her own hands, pitching the idea of Jambo Bwana, a vibrant call-and-response greeting song from Tanzania, and teaching it to the School line-by-line as everyone arrived. Her confidence set a warm, joyful tone for the entire morning.
Next, our Senior Choir took to the stage to perform a stunning rendition of Mo Li Hua, a traditional song sung in Mandarin celebrating the beauty of the jasmine flower. A special thank you goes to Ms Liang, our fantastic new Graduate Music Assistant, for introducing our pupils to this beautiful language and leading such a delicate, polished performance.
As the assembly reached its climax, energy levels soared when Junior Choir and Senior Choir combined, directed by our brilliant new Music teacher, Mrs Cole. Together, they delivered a high-spirited Gospel Medley packed with joyful movement and rhythm.
To round off an excellent celebration, Chapel Choir saw everyone out of the hall with a powerful performance of Dodi Li. Complete with enthusiastic foot stamps and rich four-part harmonies, it was a rousing finale to a morning that celebrated diversity, leadership, and the extraordinary musical talent across our School.
A huge thank you and well done to all our performers and staff for bringing our School community together through such a wonderful global repertoire!
