Exams & Admissions Sixth Form

Brentwood School’s International Baccalaureate students are celebrating an excellent set of results following two years of hard work. The usual sense of anticipation was even more apparent this year as students across the country had completed public exams for the first time since 2019. The hard work of students and their teachers over a two year period that included lockdowns and Covid restrictions paid off handsomely. The class of 2022 can legitimately say they’ve contributed to the School’s highest ever points average in normal times of 39.4.

Half of the students received 40 points or more (with 45 the maximum), putting them in the top 10% worldwide, and five students achieved 42 points or more, putting them in the top 4% worldwide, cementing the School’s excellent reputation for nurturing individual students and helping them achieve outstanding IB results.

Out of the group of 18 students, 3 students took four higher level subjects, compared to the usual three, and two students achieved prestigious bilingual diplomas.

One student received a hugely impressive 44 points. Pavle Glisic, a House Captain and HMC Scholar from Serbia studied Higher Level subjects German, Physics, Maths Analysis and Chemistry and is weighing up offers from Imperial College London, and top institutions in The Netherlands and Germany.

Stephanie Cooper, fresh from exhibiting at the School’s visual arts project last month, was delighted with her outstanding 43 points for her Higher Level subjects English Literature, German and Geography, and is off to the University of Exeter to continue studying Geography.

Alex Hak (one of the Deputy Heads of School this year), and Katy Lotherington achieved an impressive 42 points, and will both study English at UCL and Nottingham respectively.

Alex’s parents were in School to collect her results, with an overwhelmed Alex on speakerphone, since she’s taking part in a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in Yorkshire. She said she was in shock, and especially surprised about her 7 in Maths, paying tribute to Head of Maths Miss Warnes. She will celebrate on the campsite with a team barbecue tomorrow.

Katy said she exceeded her expectations and was relieved that her hard work had paid off. Her proud parents, also in school, were taking her out for dinner to celebrate.

On the eve of the Women’s European Football Championships beginning in England, two founding members of the School’s first ever girls’ football team were delighted to receive their IB results today, and for Tatum Sadler and Haneefah Abdul it was a trophy-winning moment as they received 40 and 39 points respectively. Tatum is planning to pursue her sporting interests and study Physiotherapy at the University of Nottingham.

Another HMC Scholar, Aren Sedrakayan, from Armenia, studied Higher Level subjects German, Biology, Maths Analysis and Chemistry. and has offers from some of the top universities in the world.

Sila Ugurlu (also one of the outgoing Deputy Heads of School) is the School’s first Foundation Scholar) and has helped raise further bursary funds that will enable other students to join the School, achieved 37 points and her first choice university placement of King’s College London to read History and International Relations.

The School’s Director of the IB Diploma Programme, Mrs Hollie Carter, commented “It’s wonderful to see our IB students receive such an excellent set of results after all the effort that they have put in over the last two years. 39.4 is a superb points average and demonstrates the School’s commitment to this more rigorous qualification, which is highly valued by academic institutions the world over. I’d like to pay tribute to our talented team of teachers who have guided them through so admirably.
