Brentwood Chess Making Moves

Brentwood School’s chess aficionados finished third in the National Final of the English Chess Federation Junior Team Challenge, held on Saturday at King’s College School in Wimbledon.

After 8 rounds and 32 individual games, the Brentwood team, Max P, Jaden O, Markos M, Rostislav K and Yahya F, scored 20.5/32 to finish 3rd behind Wilson’s School and King’s College School. The competition was open to school teams of Year 7 and 8 students who travelled from as far afield as Manchester.

On Sunday, Brentwood School welcomed International Master Lorin D’Costa to the campus for a coaching session with students. Lorin, who is the founder of She Plays To Win, an organisation to encourage more girls to play and develop their chess, was joined by Brentwood’s own Director of Chess, IM Richard Pert.

In the afternoon, Brentwood School and SPTW jointly ran a tournament for girls new to competitive chess which some 40 girls entered and enjoyed five rounds of friendly competition.
