England Netball National Schools Final
On Saturday, March 12th, the Under 14 and Under 16 netball girls represented Brentwood School at the England Netball National Schools final, held at Oundle School. This was the first time in the School’s history that two teams have made it to this exceptionally high standard, and as a department, we are so proud of how well they have done to get to this point!
There were two pools on the day for each age group, with the Under 14 girls taking on Withington, Bablake, Wimbledon High School, Millfield, The Marist, Yarm, Wakefield Girls and Trent College. After a delayed start, the girls found the standard to be higher than they had ever come up against, but every girl rose to the challenge and fought for every ball and interception. Losing the first game by just one goal gave the team the drive they needed, and they proceeded to win the next five games in a row, including a two-goal win over the legendary sporting school of Millfield. A frustrating one-goal loss against the pool winners Withington didn’t dampen the team spirit, and the girls pulled back to win their final two games, even after suffering from a tournament-ending injury. They were declared third in the pool by just 0.1 goal average, making them one of the top six teams in the country; an incredibly close statistic and one that we are determined to beat next year!
Both teams of girls represented the School at the highest level of school netball and should be so proud of everything they have achieved this season.
A huge thank you to Mrs Simpson-Crick, Mrs Juniper, Miss Morrell and Mr Sawyer for accompanying the girls throughout the day, as well as to all the staff and parents who came to support. Here’s to getting all three teams there in 2023!
