Former Teacher Publishes Third Novel

Many pupils and parents will remember former Brentwood School Head of English, Dr Simon Evans, who has just published his third novel, Sir Gawain and the Green Maiden.

Dr Evans, who retired from Brentwood School in 2019 after 31 years, also writes under the pseudonym Evan Symmonds. His latest offering is a historical romance inspired by the mediaeval poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

The book, which is available in hardback, paperback and ebook, will appeal to lovers of chivalric romance and historical fiction. Dr Evans explained: “You may remember there was a high-budget film The Green Knight out last year based on the same material.  My book takes the story further….”

Sir Gawain and the Green Maiden is a departure from Dr Evans’ second book, Mansfield Park & Ride, a laugh-out-loud comedy about an English stately home and its frustrated efforts to mount a Jane Austen exhibition. His first novel was the chilling ghost story Though the Frost Was Cruel.

Upon retirement, Dr Evans moved to Monmouth on the border between Wales and England and now divides his time between writing, walking and the occasional wild swimming.

Further information about the author can be found on his website and Sir Gawain and the Green Maiden is available from Amazon in print and for Kindle.
