Girls’ Chess Team Heads for National Final
Brentwood School Girls’ Chess Teams (A and B) took part in the Southern semi-final of the English Chess Federation Girls’ School Championships, last month.
Our U19 B team, missing our Year 11 players due to mock GCSEs, gained valuable experience. However, they didn’t qualify for the National Finals. But all was not over…
Fast forward to the 8th February, our Year 11s returned from study leave to join the U19A team and win an online Repechage competition for other teams knocked out at the semi-final stage.
Brentwood School scored 29 points to edge out Wycombe Abbey (26) and Tiffin (25).
This win means these four girls will take their place alongside nine other teams at the competitive National Finals in April at St Catherine’s School, Bramley – good luck girls!
Congratulations to our fantastic quartet of Nina (Year 11), Gracie (Year 11), Anushka (Year 9) and Durga (Year 8). Nina, Brentwood School’s Chess Captain, won all her games, standing out in the competition.
