National Success for Year 7 Pianist Emily
The historic Steinway Hall in London provided the perfect backdrop for a landmark achievement this past Saturday, 28th March. Year 7 Music Scholar Emily has been crowned the 1st Place winner of the EPTA (European Piano Teachers Association) National Grand Final for the Intermediate I class.
After progressing through three rigorous rounds of competition, Emily faced the best young pianists in the country to secure the top spot. Her performance left a lasting impression on the distinguished adjudicator, Nancy Litten, who described Emily’s playing as “a true figure of professional performance.”
For Emily, the day was about more than just her solo success. Upon entering the prestigious hall, she was delighted to find Brentwood School featured on the “All-Steinway School” awards list- a proud reminder of the world-class musical environment she represents.
While Emily is only in her first year at Brentwood, her impact on the Music Department has already been profound. Beyond her mastery of the piano, she is a versatile musician who plays violin in the School Symphony Orchestra, sings in the Chamber Choir, and regularly performs as a soloist in various Chamber Concerts.
Head of Music, Mr O’Leary, expressed the School’s collective pride in Emily’s milestone:
“We are so proud of all Emily has achieved already in her short time at Brentwood. Although only in Year 7, the maturity and success of her playing in concerts and competitions are well beyond her years, as is her dedication to music-making across our orchestras, choirs, and a whole host of additional performance opportunities. Her success at the EPTA Final is truly a well-deserved recognition of this commitment and talent, and we in the Music Department continue to take exceptional pride in all she does!”
We look forward to hearing much more from Emily as she continues her musical journey here at Brentwood. Congratulations, Emily!
