Black History Month Reflection

We wanted to share a quick reflection on the incredible week we have had celebrating Black History Month.

The children have truly embraced the vibrancy of our activities, from lively sambas and wonderful scavenger hunts to engaging cultural crafts and thought-provoking assemblies. It’s been fantastic to see them actively engaging in discussions about cultural differences and celebrating the diversity within our rich school community.

To continue engaging with this important theme, we’re reminding all children about the two creative competitions currently running. This is a brilliant opportunity for them to reflect on what ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride’ means to them and express it visually.

Your child can enter by either:

  • Poster competition: design an original poster that powerfully illustrates the theme using any materials they like (drawing, painting, digital art, etc.) or using a template from the internet to colour themselves, adding their own flair and vibrancy.
  • Poetry Competition: write a creative poem exploring the themes of Standing Firm in Power & Pride.
  • In Our Own Words, Family Narratives: We are continuing the initiative we began last year, where our community shared the tales from their families. That collection was compiled into a digital book In Our Own Words, linked here. This year, we warmly invite pupils and their families to add to the existing stories

Please submit all entries for the above to prep@brentwood.essex.sch.uk with the subject line that describes the entry: Competition for BHM – Child’s Name or Family Narratives BHM – Child’s Name by the 4th November.

We are excited to see their creative entries and celebrate the power and pride within our community!

Thank you for your continued support.

Wishing you a restful half-term.
