Hope Shoebox Appeal

This year we are supporting the charity Link to Hope and its Christmas shoebox initiative and we hope you will be able to contribute. The Link to Hope Shoebox Appeal has been running since 1992 and has delivered smiles at Christmas to thousands of families, sending over a million gift-filled shoeboxes to some of the poorest communities in many locations across eastern Europe. It’s a really simple and effective idea, anyone can contribute and we are keen as a school for as many people as possible to become involved. In a similar initiative last year we managed to send over 90 boxes and in doing so our school community brought some happiness and comfort into the lives of many.

In order to take part we are encouraging each student to fill a shoebox with small gifts to donate to the charity. The box can be filled with just about anything a family could need or enjoy: sweets and non-perishable snacks, toiletries, soft toys, family games, stationery, hats, scarves, etc. (Please see the link above for the full list and further information about the appeal.) In addition to the items collected, the charity requires a £3 donation with each Christmas shoebox to cover the cost of shipping to the continent.

Year 7 pupils have learnt about the cause and were encouraged to pack a box at home during their Service or Outdoor Education session on the 23rd September.

For students in years 8-13 who wish to be involved, the completed shoeboxes and the £3 donation will need to be brought to school and put at the back of the Memorial Hall by Friday, 16th October ready to be collected by the charity during the half term break.
