Music for Harvest Festival
Our Harvest Festival Assembly on Thursday was brought to life with a joyful and uplifting musical contribution from the Prep Chapel Choir and Orchestra.
The assembly was led by Revd Dr McConnaughie and the celebration began with an energetic performance of Harvest Samba by our fantastic Orchestra – their first of the school year. As pupils and staff gathered in the Prep Hall, toes were already tapping to the vibrant rhythms, setting a cheerful tone for this special community event.
We were then treated to a moving rendition of John Rutter’s Look at the World, beautifully conducted by our new Graduate Assistant of Music, Mr Wedmore, who is working this year in both Prep and Senior Schools and becoming a recognisable face. Thank you, Mr Wedmore. The choir’s harmonies filled the hall, reminding us to pause, reflect, and give thanks for the changing seasons and the beauty of the world around us.
Later, pupils from Years 3 to 6 joined voices to sing Drop in the Ocean, which tied in perfectly with some of the children’s learning in Inquiry about Community. The song was a powerful reminder that while each of us plays a small part, together we can make a big difference – something clearly shown by the generous food donations brought in by families across the School.
To finish, we returned to Harvest Samba – this time with actions. Led with great enthusiasm by our talented Year 6 pupils and accompanied by the Orchestra, the whole school, staff and pupils, from Reception to Year 6, sang along. The energy in the hall was infectious, and the catchy tune stayed with us for the rest of the day!
A huge well done to everyone involved – it was a joyful celebration filled with music, movement, and a strong message of community and giving.
