Prep Chess Success

Brentwood Prep played in the English Primary School Chess Association semi-finals on Sunday at Haberdashers’ Girls’ School.

It was a great event with over 300 children taking part. We took 7 players who rotated in and out of the team each round. 5 players were in the team in each of 5 rounds with a 6th playing a reserve game. Our team was Joshua M, Ava, Mark N and Finley (Year 6) with Krishnav and Ronav (Year 5) and Maansi (Year 3). The players battled hard and performed well above their ratings to win 3 matches out of 5 and score 13 individual wins from 25 individual games.

It was a great all-round team effort but special mention to Joshua for his leadership and performance on top board and to Maansi for winning all 5 of her games. Alongside the quality of the chess, it was equally pleasing to see how well the team supported and encouraged each other.

The next stop for the Brentwood Prep chess team will be the National Final of the English Chess Federation Primary Team Challenge. We qualified for the National Final by winning the Essex Zonal that we hosted in March.
