Pupils Shine at Steinway Concert

Two of our Prep School pupils delivered truly outstanding performances at this year’s Steinway Concert, performing alongside Senior School students at an exceptionally high level — and completely earning their place alongside musicians of such high calibre.

Mark captivated the audience with a confident and musical performance of Invention No. 8 in F major by J.S. Bach, while Emma followed in the second half with a beautifully expressive rendition of Chopin’s Nocturne in E flat major. For two Year 6 pupils to be performing repertoire of this calibre, with such maturity and assurance, is quite remarkable and a real testament to their dedication and musical talent.

The concert formed part of Steinway Day, a celebration of the School’s ongoing partnership with Steinway & Sons. Brentwood has been proud to be an All Steinway School since 2019, reflecting our commitment to excellence in music education and performance.

In addition to the concert, the day also included an inspiring masterclass led by concert pianist Antonina Suhanova, held in Memorial Hall. Many of our Year 5 and Year 6 pianists attended, gaining valuable insight, inspiration and first-hand experience of working with a professional musician at the highest level.

Steinway Day was a wonderful celebration of musical achievement across the School, and Mark and Emma’s performances were a standout highlight –  a moment of real pride for our Prep School community. It was also lovely to see some of our Prep pupils and parents in the audience supporting them.

Here is a quote from Mark, about the event:

The experience was fantastic. It was a brilliant opportunity to watch and listen to such talented pianists performing at the Senior School. The masterclass was magnificent, as it taught me a multitude of different ways to practice pieces myself. Listening to an extremely famous pianist teach inspiring young musicians was excellent. The Steinway event was marvellous; the amazing teaching and performing was exceptional. As a Prep School musician, I really enjoyed performing with the Senior School students, and the ability to play in a concert filled to the brim with talented students was magnificent. The opportunity to play was an honour and I really look forward to next year’s exquisite performance!
