Brentwood Chess Team in East Anglian Final
Congratulations to Brentwood’s young Chess team who beat Westcliff High School for Boys in an exciting semi-final of the East Anglian Under 19 School Championship. A determined performance by Brentwood players: Nina P; Max P; Jaden O; Taej S; Rosti K and Yahya F saw the school progress to the final where their likely opponents will be Norwich School. Special mention must also go to Connor M and Gracie C who played on two reserve boards that did not make up the final score.
Nina and Max quickly won their matches, but the other contests were long, close and well fought. Particular credit to Jaden and Yahya (both Year 7) taking on students in Year 13. Taej, Rosti and Yahya were all making their debuts over the board for Brentwood A. In the end, an exciting draw by Rosti (after sacrificing material for a direct assault on his opponent’s king), and a fine win by Jaden, secured a 3.5/2.5 victory for Brentwood. The winners of the East Anglian final will qualify for the National Finals at the end of June.
