Music Awards & Achievements

Brentwood School took the South East music scene by storm last week rivalling Storms Dudley and Eunice with powerful performances at the Stratford & East London Music Festival and the Rotary Young Musician district final.

The Stratford & East London Music Festival, the UK’s oldest music and drama festival, is a competitive Music, Speech & Drama Festival showcasing the region’s top vocalists and musicians. With over 200 classes in a variety of categories, Brentwood’s talented young musicians made their mark scooping a plethora of titles across the five days including the top award for Young Musician of the Year.

Fifteen-year-old Scholar, Murray P, who recently gained a coveted place in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) academy vocal team, took top honours following a hotly-contested final.

Brentwood School’s Director of Music & Performing Arts, Mr Florian Cooper, said: “We had a very exciting week of music making. The standard was extremely high and, remarkably, Murray won the whole competition whilst we enjoyed success in a number of classes including: Lyric T (Voice); Heather T (Voice); BessIE T (Piano); Murray P (Voice); Iman K (Voice); Prep pupil Ore J (Voice; Bassoon, Violin, Viola and Recorder); Sophia A (Violin); Sam L (Double Bass) and Rachel T (Piano).”

Mr Cooper rounded off a busy half-term with a trip to Chelmsford Cathedral on Saturday evening when he supported another of his musical protegees, Sophia A, who made the district final of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year competition. A very proud Mr Cooper added: “It was an extremely good competition and Sophia was awarded the runner up position, narrowingly missing out on winning the entire competition. I think Brentwood music was very well represented in the South East this week!”
