Chess Competition

Brentwood School's younger chess players journeyed to Aston in Birmingham for the English Chess Federation Junior Team Challenge National Final. Despite tough competition, the team showcased resilience and unity.

Having qualified by a narrow margin in the Michaelmas Term, the team of 7 rotated through the rounds, allowing more students to experience the thrill of representing Brentwood School.

Led by Year 8 students (Aryan, Maadesh, Chiza, Aakash and Shayan), the team was supported by Pranav in Year 7 and George in Year 6. The team exhibited great camaraderie and sportsmanship throughout the day, encouraging each other throughout the ups and downs of the day.

The team secured a commendable 7th place in the standings, tallying 11 out of 20 points in total. Despite facing off against three of the top five schools, our team held their ground with tenacity and skill. It's worth noting that just one additional individual victory would have propelled us to 12 out of 20 points, securing a prestigious 3rd place finish outright.

Beyond their performance, our players exemplified the values of Brentwood School, displaying integrity and respect. A post-competition stroll under the sunshine added a perfect finish to a memorable day.

Well done to all involved!
