Year 9 student, Riley G, reflects on the English Chess Federation (ECF) U19 Repechage Tournament held recently at Eton College:

On 11th May 2023, Brentwood School B Team travelled to Eton College for a Repechage Tournament and a chance to join the Brentwood A Team in the ECF National Under 19 Finals.

Our Brentwood School B Team included Lucas B (Year 8), Anushka K K (Year 8), Gracie C (Year 10), Dilsher C (Year 8), Tom P (Year 9), Riley G (Year 9) and Conor Q (Year 9).

We fought hard to the Quarter-Finals where we unfortunately lost against Latymer School. Eton College then went on to win the Tournament against Winchester College in the Final.

Our Brentwood Team then entered a mini-tournament where we secured a fantastic 5.5-0.5 victory against Holyport that left us to play Bancroft School in our final round. We finished sixth place overall and enjoyed joining in a friendly match against other Eton students while the tournament was finished.

Mr Moston, who taught at Brentwood School previously, took us on a tour of Eton College after the tournament. We saw significant parts of Eton history: the chapel, the place where the game Eton fives was invented and the first-ever Eton classroom.

Overall, it was a great experience for everyone and we would like to thank Eton College for their hospitality and making us feel so welcome.
