A Brentwood School House Captain is taking a painful lead in a charity effort to walk 500 miles to raise much-needed funds for the Little Havens Children's Hospice.

As Weald House Charity Week kicks off, Clarise Castleman, who has just undergone major knee surgery, is leading by example by taking her own ‘baby steps’ despite a straight leg brace.

‘Weald Will Walk 500 Miles’ is a whole School community project and part of a charity week which also includes a Virtual Talent Show, FIFA online tournament, Lockdown House Quiz, Paper Aeroplanes Challenge, DIY test, Art challenge and a Funky Isolation Hairstyle competition.

Clarise hopes ‘Weald Will Walk 500 Miles’ will raise £1000 for a charity which is close to the School’s heart. She explained: “As a proud member of Weald House, and being House Captain, I wanted to raise money and awareness for our House charity (Little Havens Children’s Hospice).

"I wanted to include as many people as possible, both inside and outside of school, so I decided this project would be best to do now as it would also raise people’s spirits during this lockdown.”

Sixth Former and Dance Academy Captain Clarise dislocated her knee and damaged her medial collateral ligament while recording a dance video, and the injury resulted in painful surgery.

During Weald House Week, Clarise aims to recruit 100 fellow students (and their families) who will commit to walk 5 miles each, as part of their daily exercise, and donate to and share her JustGiving page.

*Little Havens must raise over £40,000 each week to be there for every baby, child and teenager who needs their support.
